JNU and Anti Nationalism

There has been outrage in different forms over JNU incident. Some were outraged by what they perceived to be a curbing of "freedom of expression", some expressed outrage over anti nationalist spirit displayed, and others, over what they saw Government's high handedness and "intolerance". The intellectuals, media and some political parties belong to the first and third groups. Some politicians have already expressed their solidarity with the students. I am not going to argue here whether they were right or wrong. One thing is however very evident, that in communist thought process their can be no place for Nationalism and when communism mingles with communalism, the concoction becomes deadly. JNU has always been noted for communist sympathizers, some of its professors and academics were noted for their virulent and passionate opposition to anything to deal with the greatness and glory of nation because they either perceived it to be narrow mindedness to love one's country, or refrained from it because they still considered India and its tradition to be "Hindu to the core" and therefore dangerous and debilitating for progress of mankind.

Its a known fact that communists are always opposed to the idea of a nation state not built along their own lines of thoughts. Esp. they had a great disdain for Hindu India ever since the communism took their roots in India. Influenced by Western scholars who were in various degrees either ignored the massive contribution of India towards the progress of mankind and took it to be a caste ridden nation with a narrow and orthodox outlook, not conducive to the modern world of intellectual progress, or entered into virulent outbursts and abuses against it, by giving different twists to its "Hindu history and mythology", the Indian scholars and intellectuals were not far behind in denouncing their own country. It was they that formed the backbone of leftist thoughts in the country that so permeated the education system, esp. the higher education. In every university left leaning intellectuals occupied the highest post and they did the best to support the cause of their ideology. JNU became one of the prime spots of such activism. Noted historians who fabricated the country's history in the form of some invasion theory postulated by a few western historians without any basis or evidence and zealously pursued by academics other prominent countries who had nothing but contempt in store for India, forced the same to be fed to millions of young minds for the past three generations. We all grew up knowing, in Swami Vivekananda's language, that our fathers were thieves and grandfathers were murderers and that our whole history and civilization is a heap of lies. we've only been civilized in the past thousand years through slavery and that no atrocities were ever committed by the invaders in India, save thousands of years back when Aryans exterminated the Dravidians and other inferior races. The last statement of course finds no support, either in the vast historical or Puranic literature and even in the more accepted Buddhistic ones. But nevertheless, these were taught to be true.
Communism has of course undermined nationalism in various ways, right from back stabbing the independence movement, supporting China and Pakistan and showcasing India in a poor light in every international forum, communists and their intellectuals have done their best to get themselves rid of the baggage of patriotism. So it should not come up as a big surprise when they support Kashmiri terrorists and denounce Indian state for hanging another terrorist who blew up few Indians who would have died anyway. It should not come up as a surprise when media supports some of it in the name of freedom of expression because after all in the murky world of investment and finance everything is driven by selfish interests and it is difficult to ascertain these days as to whose interest the media serves. It should not come up as a surprise because intellectuals have always expressed their sympathy withe communal elements and terrorists provided they are not Hindus.
So the outrage, to my mind, is in most cases orchestrated and politically motivated. Average Indian knows that his or her country will go on despite all these nuisance, because India, mother India is as broad as the sky and as deep as ocean for her love of her children, however misguided they are. She will always embrace them lovingly, however they injure her. There in lies her inherent strength, in universal motherhood and love and sympathy for all, which, Swami Vivekananda rightly pointed out, has its origin in her spiritual thoughts which is her all and all. These has sustained her when all other civilizations have fallen and crumbled to dust and this will sustain her as long as she follows the course. She may suffer, but will not cave in. Her detractors will appear in every age in different forms, but she will remain, forever.
